Not on the strong or fervent feeling with which I pray does the blessing depend, but upon the love and the power of the Father to whom I interest my needs. So often in my prayer my eyes are upon my Father but my heart is drenched in my own needs. The quotation above by Andrew Murray brought conviction to my heart this morning during my quiet time with God.
The knowledge of God’s Father-love is the first and simplest but also the last and highest lesson in the school of prayer. The sooner I learn to forget myself in the desire that He may be glorified, the richer will the blessing be that prayer will bring to myself. No one ever loses by what He sacrifices for the Father.
~ Andrew Murray
It jolted me out of my self-centeredness and reminded me of who should be at the head and center of my prayer. Back on track with the right focus, my quiet time with God proved to be a time of self-release and God-glorifying prayer.
What a Father! He has not and does not leave us to our own devices but through His Holy Spirit, monitors our every thought, word and action. He pulls us up, reproves us, forgives us when we repent and sets us back on the path He has decreed for us.
